Biden blasts Trump after new poll shows Americans favor Obama over him

President Joe Biden has sharply criticized Donald Trump following the release of a poll comparing public opinions of the current president and former President Barack Obama.

The Marquette University survey, conducted between September 5 and September 24 among 1,005 adults, revealed that Americans favor Obama over Trump. According to the results, 42% of respondents viewed Trump positively, while 57% had an unfavorable opinion, giving him a net favorability of -15 points. By contrast, 57% viewed Obama favorably and 40% unfavorably, resulting in a net rating of +17 points.

In response to the poll, Biden condemned Trump, claiming the former president has “taken a wrecking ball” to American democracy. Speaking at a Nebraska Democratic Party gala in Omaha, Biden referenced Trump’s controversial demolition of the White House’s East Wing to build a new ballroom.

“I expected Trump to take a wrecking ball to the country, but I had no idea there would be an actual wrecking ball,” Biden said. “It’s a perfect metaphor for his presidency. He’s struck not only the people’s house but the Constitution, the rule of law, and our democracy itself.”

Biden also criticized Trump’s claims about being in a “golden age” for the country, stating: “The only gold is what he hangs on his mantle. Mr. President, you work for us, not just billionaires and millionaires. I’m angry.”

Separately, Biden shared a personal update regarding his health. In May, he revealed he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, reporting a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. The White House confirmed that the diagnosis followed increasing urinary symptoms.

He also criticized Trump and Republicans for reducing healthcare funding, making care more costly for ordinary Americans.
